Scripture Reflection for Sunday November 9
by Dave O’Donnell
“For the temple of God which you are, is holy.”
The temple was the center of Jewish life when Paul made that statement. Within the temple was the Holy of Holies where the Jews believed, God resided. In 1 Corinthians 3:16 we are told that the Spirit of God lives in us.
In the gospel today Jesus clears the temple of the sellers of animals and the moneychangers, telling them to “stop making my Father’s house a market place.” The lesson behind this action for me is God does not want tit for tat or sacrifice. I cannot earn or buy God’s love I can only return God’s love, and love’s power cannot be diminished, it can only be revealed.
We are a community of laymen and laywomen who, with vowed Passionists, seek to share in the charism of St. Paul of the Cross through prayer, ongoing spiritual formation, and proclamation of the message of Christ Crucified.
